Susceptible Tuberculosis

The organization implemented the just concluded Community Tuberculosis Care (CTBC) Project as the LEAD Civil Society Organization for 420 Community Based Organizations across 236 LGAs in 24 states of the federation with support from the Global Fund through Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) from 2010 to 2015. Over 4500 community volunteers were trained and engaged in the identification and referral of TB suspects to DOTS centres and follow-up on patients to enhance compliance and adherence to treatment. This has improved community ownership, participation and strengthened community linkage with health facilities towards behavior change for TB service uptake.

Of recent, in the year 2015, HAF is a Sub – recipient (SR) to Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) as a lead CSO on Global Fund Active Case Finding Project that is being implemented in 22 states of the federation including FCT. Grant size: $ 6,186,427

Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB)

On this project, HAF is the sub – recipient to Institute of Human Virology, Nigeria (IHVN). Forty-one (41) Community Based Organizations (CBOs) were engaged across 33 states of the federation, who worked on Ambulatory/Community Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis Management. This has increased adherence to treatment, reduced possibility of patients defaulting in treatment and provided psychosocial support through trained Treatment Supporters. The project started in 2013 and is still on-going. Grant size: $ 808, 229.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

HAF is engaged by the Kwara State AIDS Control Agency (KWASACA) to implement the World Bank Health System Development Project II (HIV/AIDS Fund) in four LGAs of Kwara State from the year 2014 to 2015. The main aim of the project is to prevent new cases of HIV infection amongst key populations such as Female Sex Workers and their clients as well as other vulnerable groups most especially the pregnant women with major focus on the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT). This project created demand for HIV services for the target groups. Grant size: N11, 107, 750.


HAF served as a Sub –Sub- Recipient (SSR) to Grassroots Community Development Initiative (GRACODEV) which is a Sub- Recipient (SR) to Society for Family Health on Global Fund Round 8 Malaria Project in 5 LGAs in Kwara State. On this project, HAF carried out social mobilization through community drama with demonstration of usage of Long Lasting Insecticidal Treated Net (LLIN) and interpersonal communication to create demand for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of malaria. Grant size: N1, 180, 000 Currently, in the year 2015, HAF is an implementing agent for Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) in Ilorin West LGA, Kwara State with the objective of increasing informed demand and the use of malaria prevention, diagnosis and treatment products/services through well-articulated community based social mobilization and advocacy activities with Interpersonal Communication (IPC).
